Public Outreach

While I am passionate about researching galaxy formation and evolution, it’s not my only interest. Public outreach has always energized me, and in the future, I would love to combine these two interests and get people enthusiastic about astronomy and science as a whole. To this end, I have already given several talks at alumni events for my undergraduate university, sharing the wonders of astronomy. In addition, I’m currently supervising a Master’s student from ETH Zurich on their semester project, which focuses on the properties of star-forming gas clouds at high redshift.

GC Zurich Valkyries (2023 - present)

At present, I channel my outreach skills into another passion: Rugby. Over the past year and a half, I’ve served as the public relations manager and graphic designer for my team. In this role, I’ve successfully doubled our social media followers and increased engagement by 40%. Below are a few of my favorite posts:

Alumni Association / Ambassador (2021 - 2023)

As an active member where ever I go, I’ve been involved in numerous alumni groups. After graduating from Lund University, I became an Alumni Ambassador, which gave me the opportunity to participate in several Zoom sessions, where I advised incoming students on how to make the most of their time at Lund.

Additionally, I served as Chair and Public Relations Manager for the Alumni Association of my undergraduate program (UCTAA) from August 2021 to August 2022. The association focused on strengthening connections between alumni and the Management Team, as well as the study association at University College Twente (ATLAS). As chair, I ensure the organization is managed effectively and provide leadership. In my role as PR Manager, I was responsible for shaping the public image of the association and creating most of its content. For example, during my time, we introduced alumni blogs to share the stories and experiences of our members from around the world.

Green Team Twente (2017 - 2018)

During my Bachelor’s studies, I joined Green Team Twente, a group of highly dedicated and talented student engineers at the University of Twente, focused on advancing hydrogen technology as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. As one of the top teams globally, our goal was to push the boundaries of hydrogen fuel efficiency and showcase our work at the prestigious Shell Eco-Marathon London 2018. Unfortunately, technical issues with the battery during our year held us back, but the team we mentored went on to become both European and World Champions the following year (if only we had tightened that one screw a bit more in my year…).

As the head of public relations and graphic design, I was responsible for shaping the team’s image. During my tenure, we underwent a major rebrand, including a logo and name change. We became the first team to be followed by Shell on Instagram and won the Communication Award. Additionally, our social media following increased by 37% (For more information see this news article) .
